Terms of Service

Last updated: 23 July 2026

1. Who We Are

Grim Tales ("Grim Tales", "we", "us") operates grimtales.games, an online marketplace that connects players with professional Game Masters ("GMs") for tabletop roleplaying game sessions. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the platform.

By creating an account or using the platform you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Grim Tales.

2. Accounts and Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, book a session, or offer services as a GM. Accounts are created by signing in with Discord; you are responsible for keeping your Discord account secure and for all activity that occurs under your Grim Tales account.

You may hold one account only. We may suspend or close accounts that are duplicated, inactive for an extended period, created with false information, or used in breach of these Terms.

3. Our Role as a Marketplace

Grim Tales is a facilitator. The contract for any game session is between the player and the GM; we are not a party to it. GMs are independent providers, not our employees or agents, and we do not supervise, direct or control the sessions they run.

We verify GM applications before allowing games to be published, but we do not guarantee the quality, safety, legality or suitability of any session. Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights against us in respect of the platform services we provide to you, which we will provide with reasonable care and skill as required by the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

4. Bookings, Payments and Fees

Session prices are set by GMs and displayed before you book. Payments are processed by our payment provider, Stripe; we do not see or store your card details. Prices are shown inclusive of any applicable VAT unless stated otherwise.

When you book a session, your payment is authorised but not taken until the GM confirms your booking. If the GM declines or does not confirm, the authorisation is released and you are not charged. We deduct a platform commission from amounts payable to GMs; current commission tiers are published on the site and may change on reasonable notice.

If you believe a charge is incorrect, contact us as soon as reasonably possible and we will investigate. Nothing in these Terms affects your rights against your card issuer or bank.

5. Cancellations and Refunds

Because game sessions are leisure services scheduled for a specific date and time, the statutory 14-day cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 does not apply to session bookings (regulation 28(1)(h)). Instead, the following applies:

If a session is cancelled by the GM, or by us, before it takes place, you receive a full refund. If a confirmed session does not take place as described, or is not delivered with reasonable care and skill, you may be entitled to a full or partial refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Player-initiated cancellation terms (including any cut-off before the session start) are shown at the time of booking.

6. Paying Outside the Platform

You must not request, offer or accept payment outside Grim Tales for sessions or players discovered through the platform, or split a table so that some participants in a listed session pay off-platform. Circumventing platform fees is grounds for account suspension and, for GMs, forfeiture of pending payouts related to the circumvented bookings.

7. GM Obligations

GMs must provide accurate profile and listing information, disclose the themes and expected content of their games honestly, hold any rights needed for materials they use, run sessions as described and on time, and comply with the content standards below. GMs are responsible for their own tax affairs, including declaring income to HMRC where required.

8. Content Standards and Conduct

Games may explore mature themes appropriate to tabletop roleplay (such as fantasy violence or horror) provided they are disclosed in the listing. The following are prohibited everywhere on the platform: content that sexualises minors in any form; non-consensual sexual content; content that is unlawful in the United Kingdom; harassment, hate or threats directed at any person or group; and any activity that would bring other users into contact with illegal material.

You must not disrupt or probe the service, scrape it, impersonate others, manipulate reviews, use the platform for unauthorised commercial promotion, or attempt to defraud other users or us. We operate a strikes-based enforcement policy and may remove content, suspend or terminate accounts for breaches, acting reasonably and proportionately.

9. Your Content

You retain ownership of content you post (profiles, listings, reviews, images). You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, adapt and display that content for the purposes of operating and promoting the platform. This licence ends when your content is deleted from the platform, except where retention is required for legal, dispute or backup purposes, or where content has already been shared publicly with other users.

10. Our Intellectual Property

The Grim Tales name, logo, site design and software are our property or licensed to us. You may not copy, reverse engineer or reuse them except as permitted by law. Third-party game systems and trademarks referenced in listings belong to their respective owners; no affiliation is implied.

11. Copyright Complaints

If you believe content on the platform infringes your copyright, email us with: identification of the work, the location of the allegedly infringing material, your contact details, and a statement made in good faith that the use is not authorised. We will review notices promptly and remove or disable access to infringing material where appropriate, in line with the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002.

12. Third-Party Services

The platform relies on third-party services, including Discord for sign-in and Stripe for payments, and may link to external sites. We are not responsible for third-party services or content; your use of them is governed by their own terms.

13. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited by law, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Subject to the above, we are not liable for losses arising from disputes between players and GMs or from sessions themselves, for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you accepted these Terms, or for business losses. Our total liability to you in connection with the platform is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid through the platform in the six months before the claim arose and £100.

The platform is provided on an "as available" basis; we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, though we will always use reasonable care and skill.

14. Suspension and Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access for material or repeated breaches of these Terms, giving notice and reasons where reasonably practicable. Confirmed bookings affected by a termination will be refunded or honoured as appropriate.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes we will give reasonable advance notice (for example by email or a notice on the site). If you continue using the platform after changes take effect, the updated Terms apply. If you do not agree to a change you may close your account.

16. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. You and we may bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales; if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your local courts. If you have a complaint, please contact us first — most issues can be resolved quickly and informally.
